The goal of the Growing Readers program is for your child to hear 1000 books before the time they start Kindergarten. Reading to children benefits them in so many ways! It fosters a love of reading, introduces new words, and gets a child ready to learn to read when they start school.
How do we participate?
Participation is easy! Simple fill in a leaf on your child's reading log for every book they hear. Every book counts, so include books your child hears at storytime, at daycare, recorded books, books from home, and storywalks. If you read a book more than once, fill in a new circle for each time your child hears it.
How long does it take?
This is a self-paced, ongoing program. It can take as much or as little time as you want! Here are some example timelines:
1 book per day x 3 years= 1095 books
10 books per week x 2 years= 1040 books
3 books per day x 1 year= 1095 books
Who can Participate?
Any child from birth until they start Kindergarten can participate!
