Indiana Bicentennial Poetry Contest

Indiana Bicentennial Poetry Contest

Indiana marks its bicentennial in 2016.  One project approved by the Bicentennial Commission is the “Birthday Book” poetry project.   Brick Street Poetry, Indianapolis is looking for poems that will capture the history and spirit of each county.

Current residents having lived in Bartholomew County at least a year, and non-residents born in Bartholomew County having been a resident for at least 12 years, can submit one poem. The poem may be up to 40 lines in any form but must represent Bartholomew County.

Submit your poem by September 20th.  Poems should be submitted to reference@barth.lib.in.us.  Alternately you can drop your poem at the main library’s Reference Desk, the Hope Branch Library or on the Bookmobile.  All entries need to include your full name, phone number and mailing address.

A panel of local judges will review the entries and submit 5 poems to Brick Street Poetry by early October.  Brick Street will make the final selections and have the book containing at least one poem from each of the 92 countries published by 2015, as we begin to celebrate the birthday of America’s great nineteenth state, our Hoosier Home.

Winning poet selected from Bartholomew County will receive a check for $50!
